CHILDREN'S SERVICE

Why did you join Circle K?
I love volunteering and I love doing community service with people who love it as much as I do.

Funny Circle K Story:
Alli and I were partners during the Amazing Race at chair retreat and we just happened to be the only group who didn't recognize what a call number was, so while all the other groups were running to the library, we were wandering around Ann Arbor trying to figure out what BF could possibly stand for. Alisha and Jen (who were on the 3rd clue) ended up finding us (miraculously) and we basically ended up skipping the first 3 clues to the scavenger hunt.

Why did you join Circle K?
I joined circle K to do community service and meet people to do it with.

Funny Circle K Story:
One time during Motor Meals one of the usuals was not home, so we used to provided  key to drop the food off in his apartment.  When we walked inside though, an alarm went off and said the police had been notified and were on the way.  We freaked out and ran away a little bit, but it turns out that you can turn off the alarm with a hidden remote control that we had to find in the kitchen.

Why did you join Circle K?
I knew as an out-of-state freshman who had been in Key Club and who didn't know many people at Michigan, that I would meet lots of nice people at Circle K, and I was right so I stuck around!

Funny Circle K Story:
One time at Community Kitchen our job for the night was to cut up huge slabs of raw beef. The whole time I kept thinking about how glad I was to be a vegetarian (and I think it may have converted some people to vegetarianism) but we all did some good bonding sharing in the misery of our gross job and now I have some good experience if I ever decide to become a butcher!

KIWANIS FAMILY RELATIONS

Hometown:Lakewood, WA

Why did you join Circle K?
I've been in the Kiwanis Family since Builders Club, and have always had a blast doing service with them. I knew Circle K could continue that tradition, so joining was one of the first things I did at the University. Turns out Circle K is even more incredible than I thought, and that's why I'm still here.

Funny Circle K Story:
I was giving out popcorn at the Ann Arbor Hands-On Museum during their Member's Night, when one kid excitedly runs towards me, mother close behind. After asking if he wanted popcorn, I handed him a bag. At that point, his mother said, "Okay, now what do you say?" To which the little kid replied, "HA! I got popcorn!"

Why did you join Circle K?
I wanted to meet new people and to spend more of my time doing community service.

Funny Circle K Story:
During Arb Work Day for Circle K service day, we were cutting down fairly large trees that were invasive species. When we were falling a tree, one of my friends was directly in the path of it and managed to get his foot stuck in between two stumps. He had to dive out of his shoe to avoid the tree. It was quite funny.

Why did you join Circle K?
Natalia Maska dragged me to my first meeting sophomore year and after I went to my first K-Kids project I was hooked. I'd done lots of community work back in high school and I was glad to find a place on campus which gave me a variety of projects to choose from. Following Natalia to the mass meeting was one of the best decisions I ever made!

Funny Circle K Story:
The K-Kids were having a bake sale one semester and one day their task was to decide where the money should be donated. First of all, leading a discussion of fifteen 4th and 5th graders is hard enough. But we thought the wackiest suggestion was to donate to ABRO (American Belarussiun Relief Organization)--that is, until Laura Grai and I went home, did a google search and found that it actually still existed!

Why did you join Circle K?
I wanted to join an organization where I could help out in the community while meeting new people and Circle K came through with everything I had hoped for. At the first meeting I attended, I felt as though I was already a part of the club since everybody was so friendly and welcoming. There are tons of projects that members can volunteer in and it just feels great to help the community with other students that are just as enthusiastic.

Funny Circle K Story:
There are so many great stories from Circle K, especially from the retreats. Every committee had to come up with a short skit describing what they were working on. My committe chair and I ended up coming up with a ridiculous drama about a relationship with the database. I didn't realize when we were going to start but when she slammed the door and yelled at me, I almost forgot that it was a part of the script. I don't know if anybody else noticed but now the story is here I guess they do.
